In cold applications, it still loses its ductility, but the hardness and durability of the structure improve. After heating within the carbide precipitation range of 425-850°C, these coils are not susceptible to intergranular corrosion.
These coils contain a number of quality qualities that distinguish them and make them sturdy enough to withstand any demanding situations. 321, like other austenitic grades, has excellent forming and welding properties. It can be easily braked or roll-formed, and it has excellent welding properties. There is no need for post-weld annealing. They are also extremely tough, even at cryogenic temperatures. The austenitic family of stainless steel includes 321 stainless steel coils. 321 is essentially a 321 grade with a titanium stabilizer. To overcome the sensitizing propensity during welding, Type 321 incorporates a titanium additive that is at least five times the carbon concentration. For applications where heat is an issue, the Type 321 coil is a good choice. These coils can withstand temperatures of up to 900 degrees Celsius, whereas 321 can only withstand temperatures of up to 500 degrees Celsius. At moderate temperatures, these coils can be utilized in most diluted organic acids, as well as pure phosphoric acid at lower temperatures and up to 10% diluted solutions at higher temperatures.
